The proposed redevelopment of the Tatton Cinema site is what Gatley is talking about most at the moment, with a the majority in support. Some because they think it’s a good idea and some simply because it’s about time something was done with what is currently an eyesore right in the heart of the village.
The bulk of the conversation is taking pace in the Gatley Facebook Group. Here are some snippets from the conversation (no names!).
I think everyone will be happy with this solution. 20 years is too long to live with a derelict eye sore.
A Waitrose would be good, it’s been proven that having this brand in a village brings people into the area and as a result the local shops benefit. It has completely changed Cheadle Hulme. It can’t be another Tesco or Co-op! Is it a small supermarket or a ‘corner shop’ supermarket like the ones we have already?
So glad they are keeping the Art Deco frontage.
Hope this one gets the go ahead and the objective persons look at the wider community aspect of the matter, we don’t want it standing as is, it needs to be sorted and this to me is problem solved, sure some will have issues about it and it will create problems as well as solve them, but personally it’s got rid of the main concern of a delepodated eyesore out the way…… Enough said!
There are concerns about parking, another supermarket in Gatley, the fact that the apartments will be reserved for retirement – but overall, there’s a positive buzz about the ideas.
