Gatley Village Partnership is delighted to invite you and your guests to the opening ceremony of the Gatley’s Contemplation Sculpture. This will take place on Gatley Green on Remembrance Sunday, immediately after the Remembrance Service – about 11:30 am.
John Hartley, local historian and author has kindly agreed to say a few words and will also be signing copies of his latest book, Gatley — Then and Now, afterwards in St. James’ Church Hall.
The idea for this work was sparked by the anniversary commemorations we held for the start of World War 1 when, in 2014, we posted memories of each of our Gatley men who perished in this war. We wanted to mark this more permanently and, especially, create a peaceful spot which considers all those past and, sadly, present, conflicts which have affected so many.

Our sculpture will connect with the memorial already present and remind us of all those who have given their lives since then – soldiers and civilians alike.
We very much hope you will join us to mark this special occasion.
