Gatley KnitWits named Let’s Knit Magazine’s Knitting Club of the Year

A special day for Gatley and our happy band of knitters as they have been named Let’s Knit magazine’s inaugural Knitting Club of the Year for 2018!

Gatley KnitWits, led by Tracey Adams, has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months. Our membership has grown steadily and we now regularly have 20 people at our meet ups and have increased our meetings from one to two per month.

The group actually boasts some 40 members, made up of men and women, and are open to new members all the time.

As winners of Knitting Club of the Year, Gatley KnitWits will receive £500 worth of knitting supplies, which Tracey explains will be used for charitable causes:

As well as featuring in their magazine and website the KnitWits will be receiving £500 of knitting supplies as our prize.  That’s such great news because we have been using wool donated from the estate of a local lady who left us many boxes of wool.

We were given the wool so that we could use it for charity knits, and have used it to supply the MRI with dementia twiddle blankets and muffs, as well as the neonatal ward with baby hats and blankets.  We also knit for other children’s charities and are currently talking to two new charity groups Early Essentials and Home Start in Stockport.  Hopefully will be knitting for them too in the near future.

The KnitWits next meet up is at Bar 57 on Church Road on Saturday March 30th from 1pm to 3pm.   If you’d like more information please get in touch with Tracey Adams via the Gatley KnitWits Facebook page.
