At around 5pm on Sunday 17th July a fire broke out at the old Tatton Cinema building in Gatley. Five fire engines and 20 fire crew, as well as please and other support vehicles, were called to the incident.
No major damage appears to have been caused to the front of the structure, with the fire seemingly restricted to the rear. Smoke could be seen from nearby streets but none of the photos we’ve seen showed any actual flames, suggesting the fire service carried out a swift and effective job of getting the fire under control and putting it out.
Photos below, taken by Val Gardner, show some of what happened.
The Tatton Cinema was built in the 1930s and closed its doors for the last time in 2001. Since then it has become something of an eyesore in the village and is still awaiting approval for plans by the developer, Dickens Property Group, to turn it into a mixed use residential / retail space.
