Trouble at Gatley Station sparks online Northern Rail petition [UPDATED]

Gatley Train Station
Station Duties include popping to the shops in rush hour and buggering off early.

UPDATE: Northern Rail issue apology (Stockport Mail, 30/11/15) – but it doesn’t end there. Gatley Village Partnership are working towards resolving the actual issues, not just accepting an apology.

There have been a lot of rumblings lately about the service at Gatley train station – or lack of it – and the treatment by Northern Rail of passengers at Manchester Piccadilly who were unable to buy a ticket either from the ticket office at Gatley or on the train.

Reports of the ticket master being absent during rush hour, fines being handed out despite protests regarding the above and allegations of manhandling and verbal abuse by Northern Rail staff are becoming more frequent.

It is clearly a situation that cannot continue. That is why Gatley Village Partnership have started an online petition aimed at highlighting the ongoing issues with Northern Rail and urging them to install pre-purchase ticket machines at the entrance to platforms and allow for purchase of e-tickets via text and online.

We urge you to sign this petition so that we can get these issues resolved and train passengers can purchase tickets easily and travel in peace without fear of accusations and abuse by Northern Rail staff.
